Really interesting stuff

We are proceeding with Visible Language and I am getting deeper and deeper into the worlds of Edward Miner Gallaudet, Alexander Graham Bell and Helen Keller. What an interesting and contradictory mix of characters.

Right now I am a little confused by the progress of names of Gallaudet College. Its official name in 1891 and 92 seems to be Columbia Institution for the Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb and Blind but in all correspondence it is referred to as Kendall Green.

Kendall Green is the name of the property, not the University.

Yeah. According to some sources, by 1891, the school (the high school, the prep school and the college combined) was named The Columbia Institute and the college was named The National College for the Deaf and Dumb. At the time, George Washington University was named Columbian College.

I remember reading a biography of Hellen Keller a long time ago, but I bet the other two are intersting, as well.
